MCC students’ awareness campaign on first aid

The communication department students of Madras Christian College in collaboration with Be Well group of hospitals has organised an awareness program on first aid across the city as a part of their public relations campaign which began on September 14.
The students first collaborated with Be Well hospitals to get trained on how to provide first-aid and then spread this information at their college and then decided to provide an awareness to the public. They have been displaying what they have been taught a week long at their college. They are choosing some well-known public places such as important road junctions, parks etc., their very recent campaign was held at Anna Nagar tower park on Sunday.
Today they conducted their awareness campaign for the right set of people, the school students of Anita Methodist school, Veppery. If school students are taught how to handle such adverse situations and provide first aid, it would be greatly helpful for them in the future. Their first motto is that to see to that people come forward and provide first aid to the needy instead of neglecting the person who is in need of help.
“First aid training has two major components; one is about recognising the emergency situation. Another is about doing your best to save the life of the one who is in danger. The first ten minutes of injury is very critical, we have to act fast if we intend to save a life. Anyone who has undergone this training will be capable of providing first aid before the ambulance arrives. The help is not just physical but also emotional, meaning we have to soothe the injured person so that they don’t panic and make the situation worse. Every day at least 300-500 people participated in the campaign which has happened for the last four days and we are expecting the same kind of crowd in the coming days “says Karthick who is a student of MCC’s communication department.
They have selected students of class six to eight as this is the perfect age to get educated about new aspects of life and providing first aid is one of them. “we wanted to cover all kinds of public, that is the reason that we have chosen a variety of places to perform this campaign” Karthick adds.
It is refreshing to see that students have come forward to conduct such campaigns. This will be an inspiration to other colleges and their students.
