criticism after the very tragic death of a female techie due to an illegal
hoarding put by an AIADMK member has fallen over her. As a result, the corporation is deploying patrol vehicles to remove all such hoardings within
immediate effect to avoid such incidents in the coming future.
The authorities said that any firm
which appropriately uses hoardings and banners found will be given proper
punishments like sealing their manufacturing units and cancelling their
licenses. Not only that, placing of these hoardings are a punishable offence of
imprisonment up to one year and Rs 5,000 worth fine or both, says the civic
body. More than 400 banners have been removed ever since the issue and so many
cases have been registered even before that. In north, south and central areas
of city one patrol vehicles is deplored to remove the hoardings immediately
after the death case was reported. Still, it is a shame that the corporation
and police have waited till way too much to take any action against such a
serious issue happening just before their eyes.
Not only the authorities but each and
every individual can involve in solving this matter by helping the government.
To report complaints against banners and hoardings, people can call 9445190205
(north), 9445190698 (central) and 9445194802 (south)
Regarding the
developments of the death of the 23-year-old woman on September 12, the
eyewitnesses state that the hoarding had photos of late chief minister
Jayalalitha, the current chief minister Palanisamy and deputy chief minister
Panneerselvem. They also stated that the victim was wearing a helmet during the
accident.
The hoarding was placed
over the divider in Chennai Pallikarni. It contained the wedding greetings of
Anna DMK leader Jayagopal. Police filed a case against him on culpable
homicide. The corporation was under flake by the Madras High Court regarding
the incident on Friday. On December last year, the court has restricted all
political parties from putting up banners and hoardings in the whole state
which include Chennai corporation are as well. Officials say that more than
3,000 hoardings had been removed and 245 cases have been reported recently.
However, the case should be taken seriously and given proper care unless and
until the security of every single person on the road is assured.
